Wyoming Wildscapes II from Nicolaus Wegner

Video of the Week: Wyoming Wildscapes II from Nicolaus Wegner on Vimeo.

It was one hell of a journey during the fourteen months making Wyoming Wildscapes II, my second and final Wyoming related time lapse project. Had plenty of adventures while working on this. Lightning almost got me a couple of times this summer, gear froze up in the winter (literally), and broke a few times (don't think most of the time lapse gear was meant for extended wilderness backpacking), all that fun stuff. Despite any minor set backs, this was without a doubt one of the most fulfilling personal projects I've ever undertaken. Saw some pretty amazing stuff along the way, this part of the country never ceases to amaze and surprise me.

A Boy And His Atom: The World's Smallest Movie

You're about to see the movie that holds the Guinness World Records™ record for the World's Smallest Stop-Motion Film (see how it was made at http://youtu.be/xA4QWwaweWA). The ability to move single atoms — the smallest particles of any element in the universe — is crucial to IBM's research in the field of atomic memory. But even nanophysicists need to have a little fun. In that spirit, IBM researchers used a scanning tunneling microscope to move thousands of carbon monoxide molecules (two atoms stacked on top of each other), all in pursuit of making a movie so small it can be seen only when you magnify it 100 million times. A movie made with atoms

Paperman - Trailer

Video of the Day: Paperman - Trailer

Introducing a groundbreaking technique that seamlessly merges computer-generated and hand-drawn animation techniques, first-time director John Kahrs takes the art of animation in a bold new direction with "Paperman." Using a minimalist black-and-white style, the short follows the story of a lonely young man in mid-century New York City, whose destiny takes an unexpected turn after a chance meeting with a beautiful woman on his morning commute. Convinced the girl of his dreams is gone forever, he gets a second chance when he spots her in a skyscraper window across the avenue from his office. With only his heart, imagination and a stack of papers to get her attention, his efforts are no match for what the fates have in store for him. Created by a small, innovative team working at Walt Disney Animation Studios, "Paperman" pushes the animation medium in an exciting new direction. Published on Feb 11, 2013

Salton Sea Revisited 5m Envelope

Salton Sea Revisited 5m Envelope from Xárene on Vimeo.

Audio:
Drawing inspiration from Jean-Claude Risset's Sud and Luc Ferrari's Presque Rien N°1, Le Lever Du Jour Au Bord La Mer, the piece begins with a dialog between the environment: the waves, the bleached barnacle beach, the train, the birds. The envelope of the composition follows the envelope of the aural activity of the day and the patterns of the birds which tend to be noisiest at dawn and dusk with a calm in mid-day.

Video:
The video was shot between 6 and 9am on 6 March 2012. The final version will be dawn to dusk with a 24-hour epic to follow.

Tilt–shift photography - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: "Tilt–shift photography is the use of camera movements on small- and medium-format cameras, and sometimes specifically refers to the use of tilt for selective focus, often for simulating a miniature scene. Sometimes the term is used when the shallow depth of field is simulated with digital post-processing; the name may derive from the tilt–shift lens normally required when the effect is produced optically. Full Moon Silhouettes

Full Moon Silhouettes from Mark Gee on Vimeo.

Full Moon Silhouettes is a real time video of the moon rising over the Mount Victoria Lookout in Wellington, New Zealand. People had gathered up there this night to get the best view possible of the moon rising. I captured the video from 2.1km away on the other side of the city. It's something that I've been wanting to photograph for a long time now, and a lot of planning and failed attempts had taken place. Finally, during moon rise on the 28th January 2013, everything fell into place and I got my footage.

The video is as it came off the memory card and there has been no manipulation whatsoever. Technically it was quite a challenge to get the final result. I shot it on a Canon ID MkIV in video mode with a Canon EF 500mm f/4L and a Canon 2x extender II, giving me the equivalent focal length of 1300mm.

CATERPILLAR

Video of the Day: CATERPILLAR from David Field on Vimeo.

Finding your way can mean losing your mind in the process…

An isolated elderly woman, in desperate need of stimulation, conjures an infestation of silk-spinning caterpillars, thus leading her to a mind-bending epiphany.

‘Caterpillar’ is a cerebral drama, filmed in the historical Wynkoop House, famous for housing George Washington. The crew consists of highly esteemed artists working across a wide spectrum of disciplines. This includes special effects artist, Ben Bornstein (300, The Fighter), visual effects artist Greg Silverman (Black Swan), and editor, Corey Bayes (Haywire, Contagion, The Informant, Che). From storyline through production, Caterpillar is an ode to the creative process. This film is a must-see for anyone who has ever submitted to their imagination and felt transformed by an idea.

RUARRI JOSEPH :: Till The Luck Runs Dry

Video of the Day: RUARRI JOSEPH :: Till The Luck Runs Dry from LIGHT COLOUR SOUND on Vimeo.

Tony Plant is an Artist like no other. What you see here is just a small cherry on a cake to the Artwork Tony has done over the years. It was during the making of this film i realised the depth to Tonys Artistic talents as he explained to me that in one of the shots there was a pole he had painted red over 6 years ago. He saw the Pole was rotting and the texture of the dyeing grain represented the veins of life decaying away. By painting them Red the Veins stood out. It would only be the Passer by with open Eyes and mind that would see the Pole and see its future within its surroundings....The intention wasn't to Look at the pole. But to stop, and see the beauty we are surrounded by.... Shot in the beautiful setting of Park Head, Near Bedruthen steps on the north coast of Cornwall. A winters day was spent following Tony Plant and capturing one of his amazing Beach Drawings for this music video of Ruarri Joseph's 'Till The Luck Runs Dry'. To see more from Tony Plant :

Exploring the ideas of sight and imagination.

In this film I wanted to let the viewer project themselves onto the character and experience these locations as almost dream like space, beyond their control.

Shot over a four day period in various locations around south of England. I used a GoPro HD action camera for the majority of the shots and also a Canon 60D.

Ashes and Snow

Ashes and Snow by Gregory Colbert from Gregory Colbert on Vimeo.

Gregory Colbert’s Ashes and Snow feature film captures extraordinary moments of contact between people and animals as seen through the lens of the artist’s camera on more than thirty expeditions to some of the earth's most remote places. Written, directed, produced, and filmed by Gregory Colbert, it is a poetic field study that depicts the world not as it is, but as it might be—a world in which the natural and artificial boundaries separating humans from other species do not exist. The viewing experience is one of wonder and contemplation, serenity, and hope.

Edited by two-time Oscar-winner Pietro Scalia; narrated by actors Laurence Fishburne (English), Enrique Roche (Spanish), and Ken Watanabe (Japanese). Musical collaborators include Michael Brook, David Darling, Heiner Goebbels, Lisa Gerrard, Lukas Foss, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, and Djivan Gasparyan.

Overture

(All the tips from the "Tip Jar" would be used for my upcoming short, Nostalgia!)

"Ever since I saw it last June it has haunted my thoughts like almost no other film this year, short or feature... a poetic sci-fi at its very best."
- Ben Umstead, Twitchfilm.net

Synopsis:
The abstract story about a lone survivor lost in a dying world. A man struggles to connect pieces from his daily scavenging routine and bits from his repressed memory. When a woman appears in his desolate forest world, she's intent on making him face his past and consequent fate.
